WHAT IF YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM?

WHAT IF YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM?

September 22, 2026 5:24 AM Kamuzu Academy

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” -Matthew 7:3 NIV

We are generally very good at identifying problems around us. We can explain with impressive detail what is wrong with the school, the rules, our classmates, our teachers, our parents or even Malawi.

But there is a more uncomfortable question: What if you are part of the problem?

Self-reflection is difficult because it requires us to examine ourselves with the same honesty with which we examine others. Perhaps the argument was not entirely their fault. Perhaps you could have listened better. Perhaps your reaction was disproportionate.

Taking responsibility also means having enough honesty to recognise our own contribution to a situation.

Growth begins when we start to acknowledge that sometimes the most important person to correct is the one looking back at us in the mirror.
