HABITS
“You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your habits.”
We all have goals. We all have things we want to achieve. But our daily habits often determine whether we move towards those goals or away from them.
Every one of us has habits. Some are good. Some are not so good. And some habits have become so well established that we hardly even realise we are doing them anymore.
Think about your daily routine. How do you start your morning? How do you use your free time? How do you respond when work becomes difficult? Do you revise consistently, or only when a test is approaching? Do you arrive on time? Do you keep your promises? Do you look after your books, your room and your surroundings?
These may seem like small things, but small things repeated consistently become habits—and habits eventually shape who we become.
If you want better results, don't only focus on setting bigger goals. Look at the habits that will take you there.
Want better grades? Build the habit of studying consistently.
Want to become a better athlete? Build the habit of training consistently.
Want to become a better leader? Build the habit of taking responsibility.
Want to become a better person? Build the habit of making good choices, even when nobody is watching.
The good news is that habits can change. You are not stuck with the habits you have today. Every day gives you another opportunity to replace an unhelpful habit with a better one.
So, as you go through this week, don't just ask yourself, What are my goals?
Ask yourself:
What habits am I building?
Because your goals tell you where you want to go—but your habits determine the direction in which you are moving.
