CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES

October 1, 2026 5:24 AM Kamuzu Academy

Choices by definition entail that one picks/decides on one item over the other. People have pretty much the same set of things to choose from in their day to day living. What we do each day is usually out of choice. I can choose to go to the library or go and watch TV in the common room. At home you can choose to eat nsima or rice. A farmer can choose to recline on a sofa all day long, or to go to the fields and work.

However, choices go with consequences. There are certain choices which yield clear cut consequences. If you choose to be lazy when others are working on their books, you will not do well. Not doing well is often a consequence of being lazy. Someone who chooses to work in preparation for his/her future now, be it in academic work, or behaviour in general, will have a brighter future as a consequence. Someone said, “The harder I work, the luckier I get.” In other words, being lucky is a consequence of hard work; hard work in trying to achieve and become what you want to be.

What are your choices? But before you choose, know the corresponding consequences.
